traveline on the Internet

As far as possible there should be a smooth transition between the national traveline sites www.traveline.info and the regional traveline websites which are indexed there. There is some variation at the moment between regional websites and so it has been agreed that greater conformity may be achieved by:
  1. On regional websites a variation of the traveline logo can replace the telephone number with the region name. This should only be done if the recognisable proportions of the traveline logo can be maintained
  2. All regions are encouraged to have a banner of the current proportions which includes the traveline logo, and follow the colouring and style of the traveline home page. However some colouring and style of the local page can be taken through to the banner area if this improves the design of the local page and menu buttons can be placed in this area.
  3. the Back button and the traveline logo should link back to www.traveline.info
  4. web pages should fit the 800*600 screen size, with content centred on screen
A favicon can show the traveline logo in favourite and bookmark lists, and the address bars in various browsers. It helps get recognition of the brand. You may see it in your browser header for this page or if you have bookmarked the travelinedata website.

It is easy to add the traveline logo to other regional traveline websites. Just copy the favicon for this website and save it in the root directory of your regional traveline webserver.

To ensure use in as many browsers as possible you could also add the following lines somewhere between <head> and </head>) in the HTML:

<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
It is recommended that all traveline websites use this favicon file, which PTIcymru has kindly provided, rather than have each traveline website showing a slightly different version of the traveline website.

If you bookmarked travelinedata.org.uk and PTIcymru website before March 2006 then you may already have two versions of the traveline data in your browser cache and be able to see just how untidy slighly different version look when listed beside each other. To rectify this you need to view the files in your browser cache and delete the relevant favicon.ico files.

Do you have any other suggestions for getting greater conformity between the regional websites?
Remember to consider DDA website design issues.
