Web Analytics

Most Traveline regions use a service to monitor the use of their website. eVisit or Google Analytics are examples.

Having taken advice Traveline has set up a server that runs PIWIK which is open source. ( PIWIK and reasons to use it)

The Traveline portal uses the new PIWIK alongside the Google Analytics code that has been there for several years.

The advantages for Traveline of using PIWIK are:

the data stays on Traveline servers
it is owned by Traveline
the full click through path is recorded
all records are stored, not just a sample
automated reports can compare several websites

Incorporating the code

PIWIK, and most analytics systems, works by inserting a small piece of code at the bottom of each page, just before the /body tag. For those who have passwords, the code to incorporate on the pages is on the wiki. (password required)
