The year 2000 was was only 18 months away but throughout 2000 regions of the UK turned on their traveline telephone and internet services.
This is the first time that multi-modal public transport information has been available across the UK.
Work has continued to improve the service and now monitoring of the service shows consistent improvement across the country.
We now know precisely where all the bus stops are and bus routes are coded to "all stops".
Until recently timetable information was only available at stations and timing points but now it can be given to the nearest stop and the location of that related to the actual address or location that the passenger wishes to travel to.
